My Music:
Waking Up: The Cure - Lullaby
If you don't listen to the lyrics, this isn't a bad song to wake up to. If you're the type whose dreams are influenced by outside music or conversations while you're waking up, I don't recommend a song about a spider man crawling up and eating you alive.
First Day at School: Loudon Wainwright III - Dead Skunk
I don't remember my first day of school, but I'm pretty sure I knew all the words to this song by then.
Falling In Love: Mike Doughty - [Haughty Melodic #01] Looking At the World from the Bottom of a Well
Lonely, and the only way to beat it is to bat it down.
I think the "shuffle" setting on my mp3 player is broken. We'll see if Missy Elliott is the next song. I'm listening to the whole song when it comes up because there hasn't been a bad one yet (there are some embarrassing songs in my music folder, trust me).
Fight Song: Missy Elliott - [Under Construction #04] Work It
Uhh, yeah. Rata ta tah, tata tata tah tah, I'm going to put my thang down, flip it, and shuffle it for the next track.
Breaking Up: Smash Mouth - walking on the sun
Well, okay, then. Put away the crack before the crack puts you away, indeed.
Prom: Mungo Jerry - In The Summer Time
By now, you may have noticed that I'm not very anal about naming the tracks that show up in my music folder. I do make an effort to correct any misspellings, but that's about it.
[I didn't go to any proms in high school, and they're not held in the summer time, so excuse me while I just chair dance for a minute.]
Life: Iggy Pop - iggy_pop-candy
Well, of course. All my life I've been so fine. And life is crazy, Candy baby.
Mental Breakdown: Michelle Malone - [For You Not Them #08] Knee Deep
How was I supposed to know that you'd never let me go?
Now I'm knee-deep in your shit.
You have no idea how long I searched for this song (at least 12 years), and I can't believe I forgot about it. Hooray for spreading the word about good songs!
Driving: Matchbox 20 - Unwell
This isn't one of the embarrassing tracks. It's just one that I don't listen to and I haven't deleted it yet. I would never listen to this song while driving. I'm hitting FF.
Flashback: Alicia Bridges - I Love The Nightlife
OH-WAH, OH-WAH, OH-OH-OH-WAH-AH.
[more chair dancing boogeying]
Wedding: The Clash - The_Clash-Should_I_Stay_or_Should_I_Go
It just occurred to me that if we'd spent more time planning our wedding, some of these lyrics could have ended up in our vows.
If you say that you are mine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
So you've got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
Good thing it wasn't "I Turned Out A Punk".
Birth of Child: The_Velvet_Underground-Rock_&_Roll
No children, so this is another bonus track for chair dancing. And don't you know it was alright. It was alright.
Incidentally, I really hope that Darren does this meme. I wanna see how his turns out. You wouldn't believe the music library he's amassed!
Final Battle: Wally Pleasant - [Hoedown #02] Two For One Coupon
I don't really get the "final battle" bit. Darren and I both fall outside the parameters for being tightwads, so there aren't any battles about this. Great song, though.
Let's celebrate this love between us
Until we have to catch our bus
Whoa-oah. Could you get the tip?
Death Scene: tmbg - Snail Dust
A nice remix of "Snail Shell" from They Might Be Giants. I don't think it's a very poetic match for "death scene" because it's about a snail being put back into its shell.
Or, and I really only get this after listening to the Giants for over 16 years, it could be sarcasm toward an undisclosed person for being rude. As in, "Thank you so much for putting me in my place. It was silly of me to think beyond the confines of my immediate environment."
For me, it could go either way, and since TMBG can be snarky sometimes, I wouldn't put it past them.
Funeral Song: The Clash - The_Clash-Rudie_Can't_Fail
Well, well. The Clash show up for my wedding and my funeral! Lucky me! I spent this entire song typing the comments about They Might Be Giants, though.
End Credit: Spinal Tap - [Break Like the Wind CD #14] All the Way Home
If she isn't on the 5:19
Then I'm gonna know what sorrow means
And I'm gonna cry, cry, cry all the way home.
I can't tell you how happy I am that Spinal Tap is in my end credits.
Finally, a note about the blog toys. I've been using Haloscan for my comments, and I like it a lot, but now I'm noticing that with the peekaboo posts it gets wonky. If you leave a comment while the post is collapsed, you get a Haloscan comment form. If you expand it and comment, then you get a Blogger comment form.
CONFUSION!
I'm not sure which I like better. Opinions?
